LA Times: Agassi, McEnroe, Courier, Chang coming to Honda Center on Nov. 30

Andre Agassi, John McEnroe, Jim Courier and Michael Chang will play at Anaheim’s Honda Center on Nov. 30 as part of the 2012 PowerShares Series tennis tour.

The Honda Center event will be the last stop on a 12-city tour. The players will compete for a prize pool totaling $1 million. Each one-night tournament will feature four players paired off in one-set semifinals with the winners competing for the night’s title in an eight-game pro-set championship match.

The tour will kick off in Surprise, Ariz., on Oct. 13 and continue Oct. 17 in Chicago (with Jimmy Connors, Courier, McEnroe and Pete Sampras), moving to Madison Square Garden on Nov. 9 with Agassi, McEnroe, Sampras and Patrick Rafter.

Other players on the tour include Mats Wilander and Todd Martin. Players must be over 30 and been ranked No. 1 in the world or a Grand Slam champion or finalist. Sampras is the defending tour champion.

Agassi said, “Last year I got excited about it because I thought it was a format that was achievable.” He said, “To get out there, see my peers and friends and create nostalgia lit a fire under me and is a great way to stay part of the game.”

On Dec. 1, the day after the Honda Center stop, UCLA will play San Diego State in the Wooden Classic at the same venue.
