Jim Courier anxious to return to Birmingham to play tennis, not just watch

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Jim Courier was at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Center Arena when the United States squared off against the Swiss in a Davis Cup tie.

But the former Grand Slam champion didn’t contribute to the success earned by Andy Roddick, James Blake and the doubles team of twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan.

“It was an absolutely packed crowd, completely enthusiastic,” Courier recalled in a recent conference call. “I’ve never had a chance to play in Birmingham.”

That circumstance will change when Courier plays in the Powershares Series Champions Shootout on Feb. 13, 2014. He, John McEnroe, Mark Philippoussis and Andy Roddick are set to play at the BJCC.
